After a brief overview of some classic issues in translation theory we will explore postcolonial translation theory and recent postcolonial works that have been translated into English. As this seminar focuses both on translation theory and practice, we will discuss existing translations of postcolonial literatures from the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean and will also engage in the collaborative translation of postcolonial texts from these oceanic spaces.

Le Nord-Est de l’Amérique constitue le berceau de la littérature
fantastique aux États-Unis, et de la littérature américaine tout court. A
travers les parcours de textes littéraires issue de cette région
fertile, on examinera la spécificité de cette littérature, tant dans ses
aspects formels que symboliques, en lien avec l’histoire des mentalités
de cette région du monde et aussi de l’Europe où elle puise une partie
singulière de son inspiration.
